Not lacking ambition, the organisers aim to "break down language and cultural barriers and harmonise East and West, past and present through the making of harmonious melodies."</p>

<div class="description">
<p>Introducing visitors to the traditional forms of Korean music, the festival includes performances of the five <em>Pansori</em> "solo operas". These epic folk tales are sung and recited to the accompaniment of drums and can last up to eight hours, so take a cushion.<br />
<br />
Other highlights of the event include a Fringe festival, music camps for teenagers and an educational programme for children, culminating in the presentation of their own opera. There are also sound and musical instrument exhibitions and a food festival. Continuing the ambitious theme, "The Whole Universe Choral Festival" invites choirs from around the world to compete, and extra points are awarded for choosing an interesting location in which to perform.</p>

More traditional artists prevail, but the experimental, innovative types are gaining more exposure each year.</p>
<div align="justify">
<p>The festival offers an international programme covering all possible areas of performing arts - many at the same time. Fusions are common, with Indian music embracing jazz, Asian dance curling up with contemporary and imaginative combinations of sound, light, music, text and movement.</p>
<p>The core programme alone features around 75 performances from many countries. Some are world premières; others are commissioned works or works conceived through international collaborations. Every year, there is a show-stopping Festival Spectacular that marks the grand opening of the festival. In 2008, the show is <em>Water Fools</em> by French troupe Ilotopie, an extravaganza of costumed characters and pyrotechnics at the Boat Quay in Singapore.</p>

Held biannually in various cities throughout the world, this migratory event is being held in Asia for the second time in its history, after Singapore successfully secured this bid. <br />
<br />
This symposium consists of three aspects of peer reviewed conference, internationally juried exhibition and various in-conjunction and partner events. <br />
<br />
ISEA2008 is proud to announce an Artists-In-Residence Program supported by the National University of Singapore that will run for the year leading up to the 2008 Symposium. For more information visit the ISEA AIR web pages.</p>

<br />
The conference will explore and discuss the diversification of the network in geographic terms, developments within the residency world itself&#160; and the connection between the policy lines of the European Commission (which declared 2008 the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue) and Res Artis’ activities. <br />
&#160;<br />
The theme of the conference is also linked to the Dutch international cultural policy: “Koers kiezen” (“Choosing direction”). This stresses the significance of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue and the importance of the Netherlands as a hosting country for international cultural exchange. <br />
&#160;<br />
Special attention will be paid to projects developed by smaller grass roots organisations linked to social, cultural and political contexts, such as residency programmes for artists at risk.</p>

Events - ASEF.ASEFEvents.ASEFEventsInfo

<p>The IETM (International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts <a href="http://www.ietm.org" target="_blank">www.ietm.org</a>)&#160; meeting in Ljubljana is a part of the official programme of the Slovene presidency to the European Union. It is the first IETM meeting in Slovenia since 1992. Sixteen years: how has the contemporary arts sector changed? Twenty years since the fall of the Berlin Wall: what are the changes to the conditions in which artists exercise their right to free expression… <br />

This intriguing theme has emerged by asking ourselves some important, basic questions - about freedom.</p>
